2007 - 2009 Initiatives

In May of 2008 the Survivorship Workgroup (SWG) convened a statewide Survivorship Summit which set the course for the group’s most recent work. One of the main priorities to come out of the Summit was advocating for cancer survivors to receive treatment summaries and care plans from their medical oncologist. In the Spring of 2009, MDPH conducted a statewide survey of oncologists and primary care physicians on the use of treatment summaries and survivorship care plan. The group is now in the process of determining next steps. In addition, a caregiver and volunteer services assessment was conducted. The treatment summaries and survivorship care plan survey report along with other literature produced by the group is located in the Resourcesection of our website. In addition to treatment summaries and care plans, other SWG priorities include creating a post-treatment cancer survivor resource packet and increasing regional collaboration and communication among the New England states. The group meets monthly via teleconference and has two in-person meetings per year.
