Colorectal Workgroup

The Colorectal Cancer Workgroup was established in the mid-1990’s and has been advising the Massachusetts Comprehensive Cancer Prevention and Control Program (MCCPCP) on its Colorectal Cancer programming by providing recommendations to the Advisory Committee. MCCPCP and Women’s and Men’s Health Programs have received CDC funding to increase Colorectal Cancer screening. The Workgroup recommended that MCCPCP move forward with a second phase of a quality improvement project at Boston Medical Center in collaboration with two Community Health Centers: Upham’s Corner and East Boston Community Health Centers. The Advisory Committee endorsed this recommendation and the project is underway. Additionally the group has recommended the launch of a second small media campaign based on the success of one launched in March of 2009, geared towards Black, non-Hispanic and Hispanic men. With the support of the Advisory Committee, the second media campaign was launched in March of 2010. Currently the group meets monthly via a mix of in-person and teleconference meetings.
